= Beschrijving: David is een puber-jongen, die met zijn moeder bij zijn oma, opa, oom en tante in huis woont. Zijn moeder doet erg achterdochtig over haar werk en David vindt steeds weer puzzelstukjes die erop wijzen dat zijn moeder een prostituee is. Ze is vaak lange tijden weg en komt dan zwaar mishandeld thuis. Als Davids oma overlijdt, moeten David en zijn moeder het huis verlaten. Aan David wordt de keuze gelaten of hij met zijn moeder meegaat, of dat hij bij zijn familie blijft. A novel whose central character is a bright and intelligent boy, whose mother's preoccupation with men leads her to desert him. He descends into poverty while trying to evade the social services, and accepts the attentions of men on the street as a way of survival. The story is about a boy called David and he’s around 13 years old. He lives with his mother and his grandparents together in a big house. One day his mother tells him that Batman can't fly. David is wearing his Batman costume and tries to prove that he can, but he ends up in the casualty department of a hospital. At his birthday he gets many cards, but not from his mother. David wins also an award, his mother doesn’t come. In the swimming pool he gets an erection and an attendant sees it, and the attendant wants to show him that the erection is gone away. David runs away. David also kisses his girlfriend, his mother sees that and she gives him condoms. His mom comes sometimes home with rented clothes and blue spots on her face. At the end of the book his grandmother dies. David and his mother move in a small apartment and his mom is now in the prostitution; she is never at home. David begins to steal, because he has no money to buy food. On a day he meets an old man. The old man offers him a dinner and takes him to his apartment. The man wants to adorn and to assault him. David wants to escape, and the only way out is the balcony. He thinks about Batman and jumps of the balcony. Het boek sluit af met een register ‘Vocabulary’: synoniemen en/of betekenis.
